The Importance of a Risk Management Plan
Session Description: A risk management plan is an essential aspect of planning any event. A risk management plan identifies all the potential risks that may arise from holding an event and then lists the steps event organisers will take to reduce or mitigate identified risks. Event Safety plans are also key to your organization, staff, volunteers and patrons.

Peter Ashwin is the principal and founder of Event Risk Management Solutions (ERMS), a consulting practice committed to enhancing organizational resilience for major events through innovative risk management practices and security solutions to meet the challenges of today’s uncertain world. Peter is a former Australian Army special forces officer has been a lead security consultant and project manager for some of the world's biggest events. Peter is a director on the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) World Board, a faculty lecturer for risk management and event security at the IAVM Academy of Venue Safety and Security. ERMS’s latest initiative has been the development & delivery of industry leading workshop - the Fundamentals of Risk Management & Resilience for Festivals & Events.
Janet Sellery is one of Canada’s leading experts in health and safety and the arts, entertainment and live events. She is an active volunteer Chair of Event Safety Alliance Canada and a board member for Event Safety Alliance (U.S.). Her work as a Health & Safety Consultant, with Sellery Health + Safety, focuses on customizing programs, training, and resources to reflect the constantly evolving and unique demands of our work. During this pandemic she has been working hard to support the events community as we all figure out how to return to the work we love the best.

Chief Bryan Larkin Appointed as the 7th Chief of Police of the Waterloo Regional Police Service on August 31, 2014. Bryan began his policing career in 1991 as a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, working as a front-line Constable assigned to Division #1 in Kitchener. Over the course of his career, Bryan has held a number of progressively responsible positions. Chief Larkin is an active member of the Canadian and Ontario Associations of Chiefs of Police. He currently serves as President of the CACP and also served as the OACP President for a term. He represents the OACP on the Ontario Police Memorial Foundation and is the Co-Chair of the Provincial Police Joint Health and Safety Committee. Bryan is a strong believer of community volunteerism and is proud to support many causes including the United Way and Ontario Special Olympics. In 2013, Bryan was recognized for his longstanding commitment to community volunteerism and for his leadership within the OACP and awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. In September 2016, Bryan was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston and, in July 2020, was advanced to Officer within the Order.
Tim Beckett is the current President of Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest Inc, where he oversees the governance of the Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival. He is the Founder and Principal of Tim Beckett Consulting Service Inc, dealing with master planning, and risk management analysis and planning for the Emergency Services field. Tim spent 35 years in the fire service and recently retired as the Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management for the City of Mississauga Fire & Emergency Service where he managed the over all strategic, financial and day to day operations of the service. Tim is also a lifetime member and past President of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (2010-2012),

Insurance Post Pandemic
Session Description: Insurance for your event, corporation, venue, home and auto have all been affected by the latest pandemic. Join our panel as they speak to the future of event coverage and the changes, we need to make to ensure we have the proper coverages moving forward.
Joe Czerwinski is the Group Marketing Manager at Insuranceland and is a member of the Registered Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario. Joe has over 30 years of insurance experience working on both the company and the broker side of the business. Before joining Insuranceland, Joe was the Division Vice President at a large Canadian insurance company specializing in providing home and automobile insurance programs to large companies, professional organizations and associations. Since joining Insuranceland, Joe has developed a group home and auto insurance program that provides discounted rates for Festival & Events Ontario members and their staff.
Peter Lough is an integral member of the Benson Kearley IFG commercial insurance team. His expertise in corporate Risk Management is supported by prior experience in the Mutual Fund industry. In business Peter respects the vital importance of a professional experience, for his clients, and for the insurance company underwriters he deals with.
Peter worked to develop EventInsure at BKIFG. This program was designed exclusively for the event industry, with the understanding not every event has the same risk exposure. His passion for the industry has fuelled the success of the program, bringing clients ease as their event approaches.
A firm believer in teamwork, Peter understands the hard work and commitment required to build solid relationships. He is a former Professional Lacrosse player, most recently with the Toronto Rock, and has represented Canada at an elite athletic level in both lacrosse and hockey.
Kevin Dannemann A successful leader with over 18 years of experience in Management, Underwriting & Sales for the General and Specialty Insurance field in Canada. Currently, Kevin is the Vice President and General Manager at K&K Insurance Canada. K&K is a leading provider of specialty sport, leisure and entertainment insurance in the industry. Prior to joining K&K, Kevin spent 14 years at The Dominion/Travelers Insurance in various Underwriting and Director roles with a focus on commercial risk exposures.
Rob Ichelson is a passionate advanced care paramedic with a focus on advocacy, lifelong learning, research and education. With 25 years providing front line prehospital care and mentorship he has evolved to become a leader in patient advocacy, prehospital research and education. His research interests include prehospital identification and management of sepsis, knowledge translation in paramedicine, and the utility of case based learning, problem based learning and personal practical knowledge in initial and ongoing First Aid and Paramedic education as well as community and professional responder preparedness. Robbie is a graduate of the Ambulance and Emergency Care program at Humber College, the Advanced Care Paramedic Program from Centennial College and holds a Bachelor of Allied Health Science Honours Program from The University of Ontario Institute of Technology. During his career Robbie has practiced clinical paramedicine in urban, suburban, and rural environments giving him a unique understanding of the challenges faced by prehospital providers across many spectrums.
Todd Schmidt is the President of TNT SECURITY INC and is responsible for all of its operations. Todd has been in the Security industry since 2004 and operating TNT SECURITY INC for the past 11 years. Todd has also spent time as a Special Constable at Wilfrid Laurier University and has a vast knowledge of experience dealing with events, big and small. Todd is also a certified Canine Handler with Hunter (narcotics detector dog) and is licensed with firearms. Todd has also been provided consulting services and security audits for clients. Todd specializes in high-risk security and identifying its dangers/concerns and course of action. Todd is known for his troubleshooting abilities to provide a safe environment for his staff and fulfill his clients needs
Adam Strongman Joined the AGCO in 2005 and over the last 16 years has held positions of AGCO Inspector, AGCO Senior Inspector and is currently the Manager of Regulatory Compliance for central Toronto. Prior to joining the AGCO, Adam spent 13 years in the entertainment and hospitality industry in various positions at restaurants, bars, nightclubs, banquet halls and sales representative for a distributor of spirits and wines.
Christopher Bloore is the Director of Policy and Government Affairs at TIAO. Prior to joining the TIAO team in March 2020, Christopher spent 15 years working in political communications at the House of Commons in the United Kingdom and was elected four times as a City Councillor for his home town in the West Midlands.
